Six Years On: How Real Clinic Experience Built the AB Aesthetic Business Academy

Marking six years of ABACS, Amanda Elbourn explains how real clinic experience shaped the AB Aesthetic Business Academy and its training for every role in the clinic.

TAGS:
Six years ago, I founded AB Aesthetic Consultant Services (ABACS) to give aesthetic clinic owners the business support I knew they were missing. This October we celebrate that anniversary. It also feels like the perfect time to share how those years of hands-on consultancy shaped the AB Aesthetic Business Academy (ABABA), our sister training company.

Why training grew out of consultancy

Before ABACS, my career was spent inside clinics. I started as a Registered Nurse, became an Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, and then spent two decades running operations across a multi-site, award-winning clinic group.

Once I began consulting, a pattern appeared quickly. I could put strong systems into a clinic, but they only lasted when the whole team understood why they mattered. Owners, managers, front of house teams and practitioners each needed their own business skills. One-to-one advice was not enough on its own. Clinics needed structured, repeatable training.

That is why the Academy exists. Every module is built on real situations we have solved in real clinics, not theory from outside the industry.

Training for every role in the clinic

What started as a few bespoke sessions for consultancy clients has become a full academy with four frameworks:

  • Front of House Excellence™: enquiry handling, patient journey and rebooking skills for reception and patient coordinator teams
  • Medical Aesthetician Business Training™: the commercial confidence aestheticians need to grow treatment plans and retention
  • Clinic Manager Development™ (Core and Advanced): leadership, KPIs, compliance and people management for current and aspiring managers
  • Master the Business of Aesthetics™: our newest programme, guiding clinic owners and practitioners through every stage of building a profitable aesthetic business
Together, that is 64 modules across five role pathways. Clinics can book a single module, mix modules across frameworks, or enrol a team member on a complete pathway. Sessions run as live webinars, with on-site delivery available as an optional extra.

What six years in clinics have taught our trainers

Skills, not scripts. Teams perform best when they understand the reasoning behind a process. That is why our training explains the why as well as the how.

Small changes add up. Better enquiry conversion, stronger rebooking and confident treatment planning can transform revenue without needing a single extra patient. I shared this approach at CCR London this month in my session "More Revenue, Same Patients: The KPIs That Unlock Hidden Growth".

Specialists make the difference. Our trainers are aesthetics specialists in front of house, sales, finance, marketing, HR and compliance. Every learner hears from someone who has done the job.

Looking ahead

The Academy launched its own dedicated website on 1 October 2026, and we are welcoming more aesthetic specialists to the training team. Over the next six years, our aim is simple: help more clinics build teams who are confident, commercially aware and proud of the patient experience they deliver.

Thank you to every learner, clinic and partner who has trained with us so far. We cannot wait to see what you achieve next.

Your questions answered

What is aesthetic business training?

It is training on the non-clinical skills that keep a clinic running well, such as enquiry handling, sales conversations, team leadership, KPIs, compliance and finance. It complements your clinical training rather than replacing it.

Who is the Academy for? Clinic owners, practitioners, clinic managers, medical aestheticians and front of house teams. Each role has its own pathway.

How are the courses delivered?

Modules run as live webinars, so your team can join from anywhere. On-site training at your clinic can be arranged as an optional extra.

Do I have to book a full programme?

No. You can book individual modules, combine modules from different frameworks, or choose a complete pathway for a team member.

How is the Academy linked to ABACS?

The Academy is the sister company of our consultancy, ABACS. Consultancy gives your clinic one-to-one support. The Academy gives you and your team the skills to keep that progress going.
